It seems impossible to say “Greetings to you” at the end of another year. This troubled and confused year seems gone before we started, but here we are at the Christmas season whether we are ready or not. I seem always to get to this verse too late to fully digest it, if that is at all possible. As a pastor I preached on each title listed here as a series one Christmas and felt that we hadn’t done it justice because Jesus Christ is The Wonder of Wonders. “For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.”- Isa. 9:6
There are a lot of incredible things in the world, and we often hear talk about the wonders of the world. But the most incredible thing of all is God’s gift of grace, the Lord Jesus Christ. Of all the wonders He is the most wonderful– even His name is “Wonderful”. Every Christmas we see many references to this verse, but sadly it is usually without much effort to really understand what it all means. I urge all of us to give Him all the attention and praise we can muster at this season this year and allow Him to be the center of our focus at Christmas. If we do, I believe He will become the Wonder of Wonders for us and those around us also.
