Joy – March 2020 Update

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

Blessings and greetings to each of you from chilly springtime in North Texas. As we look around us at the many troubling circumstances, the political chaos, the family issues, and the besetting diseases we have to say we are living in distressing days. Because of the many trials, heartaches, troubles, and broken hearts of these days, I ask…How is your Joy in 2020? We just exited a season that is themed with “Joy” enveloped with the sounds of “Joy to the World” and have entered a season filled with wishes for a Happy New Year.  This is one area in which we discover the sufficiency of God’s Grace.

He has provided Joy.  One can have joy even when it is impossible to be happy. Paul reminded us it is appropriate to acknowledge that we are not always happy, but joy remains.  For example, in 2 Corinthians 6:10, he describes himself as “sorrowful yet always rejoicing”.  He even notes in 2 Corinthians 4:8-9 that they “were troubled yet not distressed; perplexed but not despaired; persecuted but not forsaken; cast down but not destroyed”. Paul had discovered that joy was a fruit that came with the gift of the Holy Spirit (Galatians 5:22) when he placed his faith in Jesus Christ—His life and His love.

A song writer once wrote, “He giveth more grace when the burdens grow greater, He sendeth more strength when the labors increase; To added affliction He addeth His mercy, to multiplied trials His multiplied peace….When we have exhausted our store of endurance, when our strength has failed ere the day is half done; when we reach the end of our hoarded resources, our Father’s full giving is only begun…

His love has no limits, His grace has no measure, His power no boundary known unto men; For out of His infinite riches in Jesus, He giveth, and giveth, and giveth again.”

Now friend, in that we can find Joy in the Lord—which is our strength.

Where We Are

Many have asked how is your and Mrs. Susie’s health. Timex, the watchmaker used to have a commercial that said “it takes a licking but keeps on ticking”. I believe that describes our situation. Both of us passed through the “valley of the shadow of death” last year. But the psalmist said “I will fear no evil for thou art with me.” Daniel said “there is a God in heaven that rules in the affairs of men”. Paul said “My grace is sufficient for thee; for my strength is made perfect in weakness”. By the marvelous grace of God, that’s where we are. He has miraculously worked in our lives so that we are able to keep on serving Him. We find no explanation but God and His Grace. “He giveth and giveth and giveth again”.

Thanks to each of you who pray for us and this ministry. Thanks to all who continue to support and encourage as well.
